In South Carolina in 2000, 72.4 percent of workers age 16 and over were employed in their county of residence, 22.9 percent were employed in South Carolina but outside their county of residence, and 4.7 percent were employed outside of South Carolina.
The three counties in South Carolina with the highest percentage of workers working in another county were Calhoun (66.5 percent), Dorchester (60.9 percent), and Lee (55.3 percent).
The three counties with the highest percentage of workers working in another state were York (36.2 percent), Marlboro (21.3 percent), and Edgefield (20.5 percent).
In the United States, 73.3 percent of workers were employed in their county of residence, 23.1 percent were employed outside their county of residence, and 3.6 percent were employed outside of their state of residence.
